Work in Canada

Working in Canada depends on the job you want to do.  You many need a Document from Employment and Social Development Canada that says the employer is allowed to hire you;  proof that your employer has submitted an offer of employment through the Employer Portal;  proof that you are certified, accredited or qualified to work in the specific occupation;  a Visa to travel to Canada;  a work permit letter of introduction from a Canadian visa officer and a work permit issued at the border and usually stamped into your passport.

Get a Work Permit

You must apply for a work permit before you enter Canada in which case the visa office may send you a port of entry letter of approval that states your application was approved.  Certain foreign nationals can apply for a work permit at the port of entry.

Travel & Work in Canada as a Youth

You can participate in International Experience Canada (IEC) to travel and work in Canada if you are a youth aged 18 – 29 or 30 years old and your country has an agreement with Canada that allows to apply for International Experience Class work permit.

Extend your Work Permit

You must apply to extend your work permit if your job is extended or you are offered a different job or you want to live and work in Canada permanently or your work permit has expired or you want to travel outside Canada and re-enter.

Hire a Foreign Worker

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program lets employers hire foreign workers to fill temporary labour and skill shortages.   If it is proved that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job being offered and that there is no Canadian worker available to do the job.
